Book of Mormon Challenge

Aloha Sisters,
Welcome to hale 1 and be prepared for a series of up lifting hale activities. We’re going to begin with our Book of Mormon challenge, which will last clear until the end of the term. Each resident is challenged to read the Book of Mormon, any language is welcome, by Sunday, September 6, 2009. We’ll have a fireside together as a hale on that night where we’ll share experiences and lessons we learned as we completed the challenge. The fireside will be held in the main lounge at 8pm. Treats will be provided.
Each unit is encouraged to work together as a team. Encourage your fellow unit mates. We are all away from home, and this is the perfect opportunity to grow closer and make lasting friendships. Try to share the experiences encountered as results of participating in the challenge with one another. Each unit will be issued a laminated poster to post on their fridge as well as a dry erase marker. Feel free to write a scripture with an accompanying principle on this poster that touched you during your reading.
Each resident will also be given a reading chart and a commitment statement to feel out. Don’t feel daunted by this. It’s designed to help participants succeed in fulfilling their goals. Please give your commitment statements to your unit representative who will bring them by the office once completed.
On the night of the fireside, please be prepared to send at least one representative from your unit. This representative will be asked to present a scripture for the unit from the Book of Mormon found during the challenge and share the experiences of the unit throughout the challenge.
Reading the Book of Mormon in a month is a challenge! But, with it remember these promised blessings:
“President Hinckley has encouraged us to read the Book of Mormon to lift us above the things of the world, to enjoy the things of the Lord. He said, ‘Without reservation I promise you that if each of you will observe this simple program, regardless of how many times you previously may have read the Book of Mormon, there will come into your lives and into your homes an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord, a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments, and a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God’ (Liahona and Ensign, Aug. 2005, 6). These blessings are far more valuable than material possessions.” [L. Tom Perry, “Blessings Resulting from Reading the Book of Mormon,” Liahona, Nov 2005, 6–9]
As daughters of God, we have the ability to accomplish great things. Let us rise to the challenges before us!
Best Wishes,
Hale 1 Staff

note: you don't need to read a certain amount of the Book of Mormon by Sept. 6th. All that we're asking is that you make a commitment to read a little, perhaps a simple verse, every day.
